 Directors' Notes

Someday I'll wish upon a star

And wake up where the clouds are far behind me

Where troubles melt like lemon drops

Away above the chimney tops

That's where you'll find me

This show has been a concept in the making for almost a year now, and I can’t express how proud I am of each and every actor and the hard work they have relentlessly put in to create such a beautiful, bright, and hilarious show! Grief is one of the most wicked and heart-breaking human experiences to navigate, but I hope some color and Oz magic can bring just a bit of light to the emotion we all feel in our lives, yet seldom speak about. For anyone who needs to hear it, and as Beth discovers, we must all learn to go on when our hearts allow.

But enough with the seriousness! At its heart, this fantastical show is just supposed to make you laugh, and I hope that all of the wacky characters of Oz do just that.

Welcome back to live theatre. It feels amazing to be back. See you in the attic!

The Night Witches is an underdog story. A testament to the underestimated victors of history, the show you are about to watch centers around the women whose contribution turned the outcome of the Second World War. Referred to as “Night Witches”, these Soviet women flew planes that were constructed to fly silently, resulting in shoddy craftsmanship, unsustainable engines, and countless casualties. Their stealth and bravery resulted in the bombing of innumerable Nazi camps, yet their story has spent decades collecting dust and remaining unheard. Today, that changes. Working with this cast to present the story of these incredible women has been one of the greatest honors of my theatrical career. So without further ado, sit back, relax, and enjoy your flight:)
