The Lion King Jr - December 09 - December 11, 2022

Stuart Hobson Middle School

 End Notes

“It is time!” These words uttered in scene one represents the acknowledgement of tradition and legacy: creating the first powerful and symbolic moment of this production. These words trigger a sense of anticipation, potential, and connection for what is to come. “Circle of Life” proceeds with pomp and circumstance as the African savanna fills with animal supporters who’ve gathered to celebrate in agreement. For just a moment; no one is predator or prey, but simply witnesses of something greater. Spontaneous reactions ensue; yelps of affirmation, and leaps of excitement all building with momentum to a joyous release and realization of proof that the future is bright, and we are all witnessing it right before our eyes.

Welcome back to our Cluster Productions! We are gathered not only as spectators but participators in the lives of our future who will be gracing our stage singing, acting, and dancing their hearts out. The Future is truly bright as we sit here in agreement. Do not hesitate to join in if momentum inspires you!

Returning from a 2-year hiatus due to Covid, producing the “Lion King, Jr” was a no-brainer. After months of social distance, the journey to Pride rock seemed very metaphorical. But we made it, and the sense of accomplishment is worth the wait.

Over 100 students from 4 combined Capitol Hill Schools will be represented on stage. Our children have worked over the past 13 weeks to prepare for today; memorizing lines and lyrics, sketching designs, researching African language and meaning, rehearsing choreography and blocking. I am so proud to see it all come together; every child as a star shining in their moment. The tradition of the Capitol Hill Cluster Musicals is eerily like the opening number as we gather from time to time to recognize our legacy, our future, in community of celebration and hope for our children. And it is time!
