Oliver! Jr. - January 27 - January 28, 2023

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School

 End Notes

A Note From The Artistic Director

"There's no real theatre without taking risks." - Haris Pasovic

Thank you all for coming to support us once again! This show has been a huge challenge to all of us. When Ms. Perry and I sat together at the end of last year to discuss shows, Oliver! came up as a challenge piece. We have shown the actors the world of fantasical musical theatre -- and how to do it well -- but we have not yet shown them realistic theatre, a piece that could actually happen. We started the show process with no conceptual ideas, and had each actor work to create their character their own. When each character started to come alive, that is when our concepts began to fall together.

As a theatre maker, I depend on the help of a lot of other people and I owe a great amount of gratitude to all of them. Theatre is not a one person event, it takes a village. The MV village that helped recreate the theatre program here is a huge part of the success of this program.

You, too, are part of this village. These actors thrive off the emotions and energy of the audience. So I challenge you, as this show challenged us, to dive in and laugh, cry, and wonder why.

Best,

Ms. Chelsea Sutherland MV'15

A Note From The Music Director

I would like to thank you for coming to the Linden for MV Theatrics production of Oliver Jr. The cast and crew have worksed tirelessly to bring you a show where you can Consider Yourself part of the theatre village while putting on a show that challenges them. We could not be more grateful for the theatre supporting community that has returned to support bringing the fine arts to Mystic Valley this year. Oliver is one of those shows that transitioned theatre and incorporated many darker themes into different genres making shows more dynamic. There are many shifts in the music throughout the play to show the diversity of situations and how life can change in an instant. Don't be afraid to laugh, cry, and jump into our interpretation of Oliver Jr while we transition MV Theatrics into a versatile group of performers.
