The Little Mermaid Jr. - May 05 - May 07, 2022

Mechanicville High School

  Notes from the Director

Even though the original movie of The Little Mermaid was released before I was born (1989), this was definitely one of my favorite Disney films growing up. I remember as a child being excited every time Disney was on, whether it was a movie or something on television. Growing up I always felt that I could relate to the ideas shown throughout the film: family, friendship, and overcoming obstacles during tough times. Especially with the ongoing pandemic these messages could not be any more accurate.

I reflect back to my theater experiences in high school, undergrad, and beyond and think how much a strong community was built. It’s truly an honor to help bring theater back to Mechanicville since it's last production (2016). These students were able to experience how much exactly goes into a production from staging, learning the music, choreography, and combining everything together. With a majority of these students not having much or even any theater experience prior, it was surely a learning experience that I'm very grateful to be a part of.

While I was able to help the students bring the show to life, I could not have done it without the help of amazing teachers including Mrs. Martinelli (Costumes and Backstage) Mrs. Meager (Art Design); Melissa Currado for being willing to take the lead on poster & shirt designs as well as organizing snacks and creating the Facebook event page; Aaron Currado for generously allowing us to use their sound equipment for tonight's performance; the adminstration of Mechanicville City School District for allowing the opportunity for the students to be a part of history in bringing back the drama club; and lastly all the families for allowing me to work with your children for many hours and many nights.

Every student involved, be it cast or crew, has a special place in my heart and I'm very proud to present what the students have accomplished. The sky's the limit and I'm really excited to see what will happen next. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the show.
