NOTE FROM THE DIRECTORS

Welcome to Franklin Central High School’s production of The Addams Family. As co-directors of this show, we are honored to bring to life the world of the Addams family: a world that is dark, quirky, and utterly delightful.

The Addams Family is best known from the 1960’s and 2022 television shows and the 90s movie adaptations, but it originally began as a single-panel comic by Charles Addams in 1938. Our production is an homage to the beloved characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams. Addams shared simplistic but relatable characters that would forever touch the world. With such vibrant family members, it is no wonder that this family has carried popularity for decades. As creepy and kooky as they were though, what truly stuck with us is how they were so accepting, supporting, and loving of their family. We knew this show would be a perfect fit for this group of students, as this is the same culture that we wish to cultivate here within FC Theatre.

The story follows the Addams family as they prepare for a fateful dinner party with the parents of their daughter Wednesday’s new boyfriend, a “normal” boy from Ohio. As you watch the show, you will see how the Addams family’s eccentricities clash with the norms of suburban life. This production is a celebration of the macabre, but it also explores themes of acceptance, family, and what it means to be “normal.”

Walking into an established high school theatre program is no easy feat, but the support of the students, staff, administrators, and overall community has been a welcomed blessing as we made this transition to co-directors during the middle of a school year. Thank you to those of you who helped us navigate these new waters. Additionally, we appreciate each and every one of you for coming out to support Theatre and the Performing Arts in Franklin Township. We hope this is the first of many fabulous productions to come.
