The Little Mermaid - March 12 - March 14, 2021

Wynford High School

 End Notes

What a year...

I will forever remember the events from one year ago.  Our production of The Addams Family was literally an hour away from our final dress rehearsal when we found out that the show was going to have to be postponed.  As we now know, the postponement soon became a cancellation.  And with it came the questions of what the next year was going to be like and if we'd even be able to do any shows at all.

With the release of guidelines from the state for performing groups at the opening of the school year, we were hesitant to commit with so much uncertainty.  Would there be mass quarantines? Would we end up all virtual again?  Would things get worse and permission from the state be revoked?

After a few months of seeing a relatively smooth running of school, we decided we needed to try.  Typically we would have our show lined up by May so we can start the plannig process over the summer, but with so much uncertainty, we kept holding off any decisions.   When the decision was finally made, it put us in a huge time crunch!  Discussion of different possible shows went back and forth.  Do we try a smaller show?  Would anyone be allowed in the audience?  In the end, we decided to go big for the students, even if that meant losing money in the long run.

I am very proud of how everyone came together to make this production happen!  We have been blessed with a group of veteran seniors that have been a great example for the younger performers. We also have a great group of talented underclassmen that have stepped up to the challenge.  Added to that is a group of middle school performers that have shown great potential.  The future of Wynford drama looks very bright!

I also have to brag on the production team!  Each member does wonderfully in their tasks while also helping the other members.  It really is a team effort, and each year the team gets better and better, and it is reflected in the quality of the productions.

Each year the program builds and invests in itself, such as lighting, sound, special effects, and set.  The auditorium is also scheduled for remodelling over the summer, which is another very exciting time.  These investments would not be possible without the support of the Wynford community!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you!  Thank you parents, staff, and community!  We look forward to you enjoying The Little Mermaid and each future production!
