DIRECTOR'S NOTES
I am extremely proud of all the students in this production. The quality of the cast, technical crew, and costume crew are outstanding. A truly successful production however, involves more than what is presented on this stage. It should not only be an artistic learning experience, but a personal one as well. I'm especially proud of the cooperation, mutual respect, the level of commitment, and the teamwork that has been demonstrated by everyone involved with this production.
I have always been a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Each year we spend a lot of time deciding on what our productions for the following season will be. As a theatre director, I believe that it is important to not only give the students and audience members productions that they want, but more importantly, productions that they need. I had the opportunity to see Newsies on Broadway in 2014. From the time the curtain went up, I knew there was something special about this show and that it had to be on my "must do at Wydown list."
Fast-forward five years, and here we are. Newsies has landed in the Wydown Theatre. This show is about so much more than the Newsboys strike of 1899, it is about working together, supporting one another and standing up for what is right. Each of the songs in this musical have a powerful message and will definitley be stuck in your head for the days or possibly weeks ahead.
It has been a true honor to be a part of this theatrical journey with all of the kids involved with this production. Their endless dedication and efforts have made this production what it is and you will now become part of it as soon as the music begins and the curtain goes up.
Enjoy the show!
