A Note from the Director:
At its core, Elf the Musical JR. is a story about belonging. Buddy the Elf’s journey into an unfamiliar world teaches a valuable lesson about the difference between “fitting in” and finding a community that will celebrate what makes each of us unique. As Brené Brown puts it: “Fitting in is about …becoming who you need to be to be accepted. Belonging, on the other hand, doesn’t require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are.”
Throughout this process, our goal has been to instill a sense of belonging in every member of our ensemble. A couple of weeks ago, one of the youngest members of our cast approached me at the end of rehearsal and said, “I just love coming to rehearsal. It feels like we are all one big family.” What more could we hope for? Mission accomplished.
Theatre provides a wonderful space for us all to belong. I feel very fortunate to belong to a community here in Natick that values theatre and theatre education, and am deeply grateful to all of the families, teachers, staff and friends who volunteered their time to help us bring this enchanting story to our stage.
At a time that may feel particularly lonely for so many, we hope that this show will bring warmth and belonging to your holiday season. Thank you for supporting live theatre. Enjoy the show!
With Gratitude,
Zoe Nadal
