Show Synopsis from Musical Theatre International

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical is the captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. With book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda has won 47 international awards and continues to thrill sold-out audiences of all ages around the world.

Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher Miss Honey. During her first term at school, the two forge a bond as Miss Honey begins to recognize and appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves to punish those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Packed with high-energy dance numbers, catchy songs and an unforgettable star turn for a young actress, Matilda is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

Message from the Director

It truly takes a village to put on these shows. With a cast of 35 youth performers ranging in age from 7-17, I could not do this alone. I have the most amazing team of people at every rehearsal to make sure we get everything done and that everyone is taken care of. Thank you to Evelyn Hawes, our music director who flew from Toronto for this show. She is an incredible musician and a gift to any production team. To our choreographers, Tayte Macleod and Samantha Madill who worked tirelessly to create choreography that is challenging, unique, and fit perfectly within my vision for this show. Your patience and passion for what you do is so admirable. To our stage manager Maia Niedjalski who loves Triple Threat with all she has in her. I'm so grateful for her commitment and love for this show and company. To Jessica Paxman and the whole Paxman family for donating their living room for spontaneous music rehearsals, picking up free furnature to use for set pieces, and for being a big part of the heart of T.T.P. To Tom Rahme & Sarah McIntosh for all of their work on our beautiful boxes and hauling them back and forth to rehearsals. To Amanda and Tim Callin for allowing us to overrun their basement with costumes, props, and set pieces. And for Amanda's incredible work on our props, if you weren't so good at it you'd be off the hook! To the Apa family for their unwavering support. Thank you to Susan and Jim at the Prospect Lake Hall for giving us a home to create our shows. And to our wonderfully commited theatre parents whose kids are so lucky to have their support. Thank you for the hours spent driving, practicing lines and choreography, and helping them believe in all they can be.

Matilda is an experience of courage, resilience, and strength. It has been a beautiful reminder to all of us that no matter the challenges we currently face, there is always hope.

Thank you for supporting youth theatre and Triple Threat Performers,

Victoria Callin
