Director’s Notes
Forced to make a quick maneuver last spring due to licensing restrictions for our
musical (stay tuned for an exciting show announcement in January…), I thought it
would be fun to celebrate “Spooky Season” with a Halloween-themed show. I was
thinking scary, but the students wanted comedy. In the end, we have two shows -
an enchanting fairytale about a mother’s quest to save her child, and a chaotic
comedy about a drama club trying to fundraise with a haunted house. They are very
different styles and energies, but each teaches us to meet obstacles and adversity
headfirst and never give up, no matter how difficult the journey may seem.
Producing these shows presented our cast with their own creative challenges, as
most of the actors are onstage the entirety of the production. This resulted in fun
and clever improvised moments. I recommend watching “The Haunted House
Disaster” multiple times to catch the shenanigans in each room when the focus is
elsewhere. Thank you for joining us this weekend and we hope you enjoy the
shows!
