A Letter of Support
From the Student Company of Memphis (2018) WAMS:
We, as a student Company, would like to make it known that we stand with the surviors and victims of Parkland and the student movement #ParklandStrong, along with the the many surviors and victims from the 214 school shootings since the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. This being said, we could not attend the March for Our Lives on March 24, 2018 and would like to use this opportunity to show our support.
We believe in the protection of all the nation's citizens and we do not tolerate violence of any kind regardless of race, religion, political affliation, sexual orientation or gender. We also believe that we have the right to kiss our parents goodbye in the morning and come home to them alive.
We want to see change in the world, and the only way we can accomplish this is by speaking up for those who cannot. We ask you, as an audience, to be mindful of this as you watch the show. We hope when you leave the performance, drive home, go about daily routines, and live each day; you remember those who have lost loved ones. We urge you to make a conscious effort to help end senseless gun violence.
We encourage you to use your voice, learn about your constitutional rights and make a difference to enact change. Together we can make the United States of America a safer place where we don't have to live in fear. A world where we can play outside without fear; learn in the classroom without fear, go to the movies without fear, listen to music and go to concerts without fear! We want safety for all our brothers and sisters across this nation to live a positive, productive, and civic life.
Thank you for supporting our Cast, Crew, and Lobby Performers, we are #ParklandStrong. We dedicate this show to all who lost their lives to gun violence, especially to our fellow Connecticut families in Newtown.
Sincerely,
The WAMS Student Company of MEMPHIS
