What does it mean to face your fears? For young people, this can be a very difficult, abstract process. How can we, as grow-ups, help them through this emotional journey?
One way to navigate facing fear is through storytelling and imaginative play. Birdie and The Beanstalk utilizes the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk and gives young people the opportunity to take an active role in the characters' worlds. Ultimately the young people gain agency and help their friends on stage equip themselves with tools to face their fears. At the same time, young people transfer these same tools to their own world.
It is my belief that theater for children should be grounded in quality literature. This play offers the chance to revisit this classic tale, or be introduced to it for the first time.
We hope you enjoy our show.
