Wait Until Dark - October 02 - October 11, 2015

Theatre of Dare

 End Notes

DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Welcome to the first show of Theatre of Dare’s 25th Anniversary Season, Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott.  It was first performed in 1966 in New York and ran for 374 performances over 11 months.  The original cast included Robert Duvall, Mitchell Ryan and Lee Remick, who was nominated for a Tony Award.  The show plays on the themes of light and dark and the struggle to find strength in a perceived disability.  This cast has put forth a tremendous effort to bring you into this story in a way that only live theatre can.  Thank you for supporting live theatre here in Dare County.  It wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated (and all volunteer!) cast and crew, local business sponsors, and you, our patrons.  So sit back and relax.  Let suspense take you for a ride, and enjoy our production of Wait Until Dark.

ON THE OCCASION OF OUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

Theatre Of Dare was founded in 1991 by a group of Lost Colony performers and local theater buffs.  The first several productions were performed at various restaurants and community centers before we found a home in 1994 here at College of The Albemarle in this auditorium in what was, at the time, Manteo Middle School.

Our current Board of Directors has been concentrating on connecting with our community more through various means: posters, press releases, monthly newsletters, and social media to name a few.  Thanks to a grant from the Outer Banks Community Foundation, we recently expanded our outreach when we toured Aesop’s Fables in the community and into all five Dare County Elementary Schools.

That is the word I'd like to stress: community.  Once our summer visitors leave, Dare County reverts to what it really is: a not-very-big close-knit community.  Theatre of Dare is a community-based organization working in a loose partnership with the local community college.  Our participants - the actors, technicians, organizers, advertisers etc. - are members of our community: your neighbors, friends, business associates, the receptionist at the veterinary hospital, the barista at your favorite coffee shop, the cop cruising the beat, the PTO leader at your child's school, the DJ on your favorite radio station, the dance teacher, the postal worker, etc.  All of them volunteer their time and talent to Theatre of Dare.  They do it for fun.  They do it because they love doing it.

Finally, our very special thanks to you, the audience, for being the last piece to our community puzzle.  Thank you for partnering with us year after year.  And here’s to 25 more!
