A Note from the Director:
Dear Patrons,
Hello and welcome to Almost, Maine! The journey you are about to experience is one of love, heartbreak, and human connection, all told by a passionate ensemble of young actors.
What drew me to this heartwarming play is the fact that it offers performers and audiences an opportunity to slow down, a welcome change of pace given our high speed world. Almost, Maine is simple yet profound; it relies primarily on the actors’ ability to grab its audience. In place of quick and clever dialogue popular in 21st century musicals and primetime television, Almost, Maine focuses on human moments of silence and stillness, moments that illuminate the playwright’s text and the circumstances of his relatable characters. It’s a steady ride that leaves a lasting impact.
Honest connection and communicating subtle dialogue is a challenge for even the most experienced actor; however, this exceptional cast has done its due diligence. In fact, this journey has left me confident in our future generation. I suspect you will leave tonight feeling the same way.
Thank you to Un-Common for challenging their actors with this piece and trusting me with this work.
Enjoy the show,
Bobby Zupkofska
Director
