Inherit the Wind - November 01 - November 17, 2019

The Richland Players

 End Notes

This show has been dear to my heart for years. Evolution vs Creationism may be the device used to create the drama of this play but at its most basic, we are gifted with a tale of the evolution of new ideas and how, in the end, those who refuse to engage are the ones left behind and standing alone. I believe that Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee ultimately suggest that to sincerely understand another human or idea, you must first remove whatever filters you personally see the world through. These universal concepts have made this play beloved worldwide. INHERIT THE WIND has been translated into 35 languages. There have been four different film adaptations of the show and there is rarely a week where the play is not being performed somewhere in the world. We hope with our collective heart that you love watching our version as much as we have enjoyed creating it.

The Richland Players Need You

This season we celebrate sharing the love of theatre with our community for 75 years. In that time it has been our honor and our joy to present to our patrons shows that have had us all sharing laughter and tears. Most of those shows were performed in the very theater that you now read these words in. It is a building tied deeply to the threads of history that run through the Tri-Cities community. This “Richland Movie Theater” was ordered to be constructed for the Manhattan Project in 1944, the same year that our organization was formed, and was built by the Army Corp of Engineers. It is our home. A home that is open to all walks of life, all schools of thought, and to all who seek to connect with one another through the shared art of live theatre.

But now our home is in dire need of care. Many areas of our theater need to be renovated, equipment replaced, repairs to be done. Our talented volunteers and Board of Directors have laid out plans to make this happen. But the road will be long and will require a great amount of resources. So we now ask for your help. Donate to our cause so we can bring new life to this historical theater. Help us to keep our home open and welcome for audiences and actors alike for decades to come! A theater for all, built by the community, for the community.
