CIDNY BULLENS (Older Albert). A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, this two- time Grammy nominee’s career has taken Cidny from performing with Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan and others, and singing three lead vocals on the Grease movie soundtrack to having nine critically acclaimed solo albums. This includes Cid’s 1999 award-winning album Somewhere Between Heaven and Earth, songs written after the death of Cid’s 11-year-old daughter, Jessie. In 2011, Cindy became Cidny, making the daunting decision to transition from female to male. Cid then wrote his award-winning one person show Somewhere Between: Not An Ordinary Life, performing it around the country from 2016-18. Cid’s memoir TransElectric: My Life as a Cosmic Rock Starwas published in 2023 by Chicago Review Press, about which Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Carl Bernstein says “TransElectric belongs on the small shelf of rock ‘n roll memoirs. Cidny Bullens story is at once about the music, personal truth, and the history of our time.” In October 2023, venerable record label Kill Rock Stars released Little Pieces, his first album as Cidny. Cid is a long-time LGBTQIA+ activist, advocate, and public speaker. He is honored to be a part of this production of The Civility of Albert Cashier.
DANI SHAY (Young Albert) is a nonbinary multi-hyphenate artist from Orlando, FL, known for appearances on America’s Got Talent and The Glee Project. In 2017, Dani originated the role of Young Albert in the first production of The Civility of Albert Cashier in Chicago, earning a Joseph Jefferson Award nomination for Best Lead Performer in a Musical. Following Dani’s recommendation, the Jeff Awards committee merged “actor/actress” categories into combined “performer” categories, honoring two winners regardless of gender. Between 2017-2023, Dani portrayed Albert in five additional concert readings, and had supporting roles in the horror film Trick and comedy series Royalties. From 2012-2018 Dani toured with Be More Heroic, a non-profit music program he co-founded to inspire young people, and visited South Africa twice with the Arts Ignite organization to teach children music. Despite being a private person much like Albert, Dani has gained an accidental online following and continues to write and share original music. “Big thanks and much love to every member of our amazing production team, cast, and crew! This steak dinner is tender and soul-filling, and I’m so grateful to be eating it with all of you.”
