The Lightning Thief - December 02 - December 05, 2021

Taft Theatre

 End Notes

Thank you so much for joining us for The Lightning Thief, our first Fall musical in two years. When you see shows like this, you’re not just supporting Taft Theatre and the incredible students and staff from across our Fine Arts Department that made this production happen. You’re also supporting live theatre in San Antonio, which is still recovering from the impact of the pandemic.

Directing this show has been a wonderful experience. Adapting a story so beloved by my students and their generation has been tremendously fulfilling. But, this show isn’t just for our teenagers. I also believe this show has a great deal to say about what we’ve all experienced over the last two years. The Lightning Thief is about perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds and finding yourself in the midst of a crisis. The story speaks to identity, belonging and purpose; core human issues people have struggled with since the beginning of time.

This show has truly been a labor of love for all involved. Every rehearsal and all the time spent working on the show on top of their school commitments has led to this moment. I also know that our families are a huge part of making something this big come together. You are appreciated!

And to our Seniors, thank you for all your hardwork and dedication to this department and the production. I am so proud of each of you and know that you will all go on to great things in the future!
