1776 - November 03 - November 05, 2016

College of New Jersey

 End Notes

Notes from the Director:

I am excited to directing and producing my second production with TCNJ's Lyric Theatre this fall. This is a wonderful and inclusive community and every venture brings new opportunities and challenges.

The students and I chose "1776" as a tribute to one of the most unique elections we have seen. I am old enough to be priviledged to have voted for president multiple times in this country and this year, I have been on a journey like never before. So, it seemed apropo to go back to the founding fathers and revisit their words and deeds. "1776" is unique in that the words of the show are lifted directly out of history. The lyrics and dialogue are taken from notes, letters, transcripts of that Second Congressional Congress as they battled the issues of Independence and Revolutionary War. The piece is timeless and the students and faculty involved have all learned a great deal about the members of that Congress and about our own history (both noble and ignoble).

We could not have done this without the unbelievable support of the The College of New Jersey. TCNJ continues to open its doors and heart and say, "Come on in! Take some risks! We'll have your back!"

So, thank you seems small, but nevertheless, thank you.

Jen Little, The Director
