Obsession. Passion. Dedication. Compassion.
It takes all of these qualities to make art. Especially, I find, to participate in high school theatre. The adult leadership has been obsessed with this production since it was selected one year ago. We have worked tirelessly to plan, design, cast, and build the best possible production for our program, for our students, and for you, our audience. The passion and dedication exuded by this company of student actors, crew members, and technicians, along with one of the most robust teams of adults I have had the pleasure to work with, has truly been a gift. It is with utmost gratitude to all of these individuals that I humbly welcome you to this evening of theatrical art.
The characters in this story, like all iconic characters in literature, are flawed. Flawed characters live in the real world, too. The beauty of theatre is that, through performance, we can experience these characters first hand and learn from them. What makes the human experience so unique is our ability to empathize with even the most unlikely heroes… and villains.
More importantly, our work in theatre is about compassion: recognizing and appreciating each other’s differences and celebrating our own value in the world. This is the spirit of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The Directing Team is committed to bringing this idea off the stage and into the world. Join us as we strive to end discrimination, harassment, and mistreatment of others.
#ChangeWillCome when we acknowledge that ALL people have value.
#ChangeWillCome when we stand up against oppression.
#ChangeWillCome when we seek to understand rather than judge.
#ChangeWillCome when we finally fight FOR each other.
We hope that you enjoy our production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. We hope that, through our art, we are able to inspire you to be a part of the change.
