Greetings!
As I began compiling the set list for this revue, I was reminded of the many great performances from some amazing productions I have been privileged enough to be a part of at South Pointe. More importantly I am reminded of the hundreds of wonderful young people I have had the opportunity to watch mature, grow, come out of the shells, shed skins, and develop into fine young adults doing amazing things all over this country. They are teachers, parents, performers, models, business leaders, IT wokers, students, etc. The list goes on and on. I was proud to share stories of past performances in rehearsals, once again, reliving the memories. Many of the alumni answered my call for videos updating us on what their lives entail now. The pride consumed me. Then, I sat for many hours going through thousands upon thousands upon thousands of old show videos and production photos and headshots chronicling the countless hours of work over the last ten years. Tonight I hope you are realizing what you are seeing.
It is important to know that while there are many memories that are great, there are others that are hard to swallow and take in. Tonights journey takes us through the good and the not-so-good. For many of us, these memories shape who we are. Thank you for being respectful audience members.
Tonight we celebrate the musical theatre accomplishments of South Pointe Theatre. We were told from year one, when we set out to produce Grease, that we were crazy for doing a musical our first year. My response was always, "Why shouldn't we?" Since 2005 we have produced 22 musicals alone at South Pointe. By the end of February we will have produced two more.
I love musical theatre. I think it takes a very distinct skill set of singing, dancing, and acting all at the same time to perform in musical theatre. And, even more challenging is to do all that while making it look easy.
I am proud of the work of all the theatre students at South Pointe. Many of my favorite moments took place in this very room either in a rehearsal or seeing the magic come together in front of an eager audience. Thank you to all the alumni, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues, community, professionals, and students for the countless of hours of work and dedication to this program.
Thank you for being a part of our celebration this evening. I hope the preshow and intermission videos offer you just a glimpse of the amazing students I got to and get to work, play, and create with everyday.
Happy 10 years Stallions! Here's to many, many more! The tradition of excellence began in 2005. Tonight we pay homage to the ones who have created theatre magic on our stage. Tonight we celebrate a decade of musical theatre excellence. The tradition of excellence continues.
Enjoy the show!
