 DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Welcome to the SVA Middle School Production of

Alice in Wonderland (and back again)

by Randy Wyatt, based on the books by Lewis Carroll

As we step through the looking glass and into the fantastical realm of wonderland, we invite you to embrace your imagination and join us on an adventure where logic bends, and the impossible becomes possible. This adaptation combines elements of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which explores themes of childhood innocence and the absurdity of the adult world, and the sequel Through the Looking-Glass, which delves deeper into ideas of time, growth, and the transition from childhood to adulthood. Through Alice's encounters with the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts, she is not just a child exploring a strange world, but a figure constantly in flux—unpredictable, curious, and always questioning. Just as Alice moves from one peculiar scene to the next, we, too, are taken on a journey that encourages us to laugh, wonder, and reflect. The boundaries between what is real and what is imagined blur, and we are reminded that sometimes, the most profound truths are hidden beneath layers of absurdity.

"I wonder if I've been changed in the night? But if I'm not the same, the next question is, who in the world am I?"
