Mary Poppins - April 23 - April 25, 2021

Serra Catholic High School

 A Note from the Director...

We were exactly two weeks away from opening night when our show was postponed and then eventually canceled. Our last rehearsal (if you can call it that) was an online Google Meet. Hearing the tears of the students over the computer was heartbreaking. All that hard work was gone. A year later “Anything Can Happen if You Let It” could not be more relevant.

I could not be prouder of this school, teacher, faculty and students. This show would not possible without the these practically perfect and resilient students. It’s hard enough to plan and produce a musical let alone per- forming it in a world wide pandemic.

The biggest of thank yous to our choreographer Cassie Fedor, seamstress Alex Malandra, set artist Tyler Gedman, and my Father Mitchell Bush who built way too many props and sets this year! I would also like to thank Belle Vernon, Steel Valley, Somerset, Franklin Regional area high schools Stage Right, and Theatrical Creations for our use of various costumes and props.

The Mary Poppins musical is based on the Mary Poppins children's books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film. The story takes place in 1910 London, England. Bert, a mysterious jack-of-all-trades, serves as our nar- rator and introduces us to the Banks family. The young children, Jane and Michael, are hopelessly spoiled. Their father, George, works constant- ly. Their mother, Winifred, is distracted and dreams of her career as a per- former. Then their guardian angel, Mary Poppins, flies into their lives! To- gether, they go on a magical adventure learning many of life’s best lessons. Mary Poppins’ teaches the Bank’s family to open up and realize that “anything can happen if you let it.”

I hope you enjoy the show!
