Treasure Island - October 19 - October 21, 2022

   Director's Notes

The best of Children’s Theatre are stories that are created for all audiences. This is what drew me to Treasure Island. A classic story of adventure, discovery, and the promise of great fortune sprinkled with spirited eccentric characters both heroes and antiheroes - with a few full on villains thrown in. We decided to tell this story simply as a troupe of actors entering stage and creating their characters in front of the audience. With that in mind, I choose this particular translation, which for example presents Jim as a girl, because of its whimsical and fun take on the well known and sprawling story. I hope you enjoy entering the world of this play as much as we’ve enjoyed telling it. Thank you to everyone who helped put this together. Julia Pinhey, all the tech crew, parents, administration and course my student director Trey Gors.

STUDENT DIRECTORS NOTES

I remember being nervous the first time I stepped into the blackbox at SSHS in ninth grade, not knowing what to expect. I’ve gone through so much during my experience at Santa Su, and I feel so lucky to be a senior directing a show! I’ve been acting for a very long time and I’ve never gotten this opportunity before. Having the ability to affect the shows I’m working on in a way beyond performance is a privilege I’ll never forget. I’ve known Mr. C for almost four years now and helping him with his show on a production level has been a great experience, and I want to thank him for teaching me the art of acting and directing over my time in high school. Theater is not going to be the same anywhere else as it was here, and I have him to thank for that. Working with all these brilliant actors has been a great time, whether I’m offstage watching or acting with them. I’m going to miss you guys so much. I want to also thank my family for always offering to help and my friends for giving me the support I need. Helping with this show has been a dream come true, and I truly hope you enjoy it.
