Radium Girls -

Santa Susana High School

 End Notes

Director:

Artur Cybulski

What is a human life worth? The Radium Girls had to grapple with that question as they battled their way through the court system in the 1920s in an effort to receive some compensation, and some acknowledgement of wrong doing, from their previous employer, the U.S. Radium Corporation. It’s a heavy challenge, and one which the cast and I have taken seriously in our attempt to portray this true story. A story of corporate greed, labor and women’s rights, the commercialization of science, and more. Radium Girls is a show that I’ve been hoping to work on for years and it has truly been an honor and an amazing experience. I want to thank the dedicated and talented cast and crew who have brought this story to life. A special thank you to our student director Bella Cannon for the heart she brought to the process everyday. I hope that this story speaks to you as much as it has to all of us. Thank you for supporting SSHS theatre.

High school is filled with ups and downs, some negative, some positive. You lose friends, you change classes, and you meet new people. However as my journey at Santa Susana has continued I have noticed that one thing in my life has always stayed consistent and that is Play Production. From starting out as a scared Freshman to now being a Senior I reflect on my time in Play Production. While the members of the class are ever changing, the laughs and smiles that they have given me have never changed. I am so truly grateful for my time in Play Production and it is truly an honor to get to be the student director of Radium Girls. I am extremely overjoyed to get to take such a wonderful opportunity! This show has given me such great memories, from laughing on stage about Timothee Chalamet to wiping tears away from the cast's impactful performance. This show has truly been such a dream come true and I am so grateful that it is filled with such an amazing and talented cast. With that being said there are some people who I need to thank, because without them this show would have never been the same! I would like to thank Mr. C for trusting me with this responsibility, and nurturing my ideas and thoughts instead of ignoring them. I would also like to thank Mrs. Pinhey, Mr. Choate, and all of tech for helping create this show. I truly do not know what we would do without them because they help with so many different aspects of the show and add so much! I also want to thank my co-star and fellow UNCSA reject Daisy, you always bring me laughter after dramatic scenes and always give me the energy that I need to be successful. Thank you to all who have helped this show become what it is and I am so excited for y'all to see what this amazing cast has accomplished!
