In 1999 Pope John Paul II penned a letter to artists. The letter was theological, but also very heartfelt and down to earth. The letter offered insites, adomitions and inspirations as to the purpose of art and thus the role of the Catholic artist in this modern world. The intro to the letter said this:
"To all who are passionately dedicated to the search for new “epiphanies” of beauty so that through their creative work as artists they may offer these as gifts to the world."
Our parishes schools and places of worhip are anchors in our communities. They are powerful because they support the way God intended us to live: in relationship with each other and not in isolation. A real darkness that threatens us is one that quietly isolates us from each other, whispers despair and convinces us that we are alone.
I wrote There is a Light Musical to entertain and reinforce our faith, but also in hopes of offering Catholic students and parents, parishes and schools a unique opportunity to prepare for the poignant and heartrending tidings from the prophets in Advent. I hope it is food for thought and inspires you take courage, to forgive and to remember who you are.
Thank you for watching. Here's to staying busy, singing songs of faith and holding a candle in hand as we make our way through the darkness together.
