It was fifty years ago that I played Barnaby Tucker in a production of Hello, Dolly! It was during that show that I fell in love with musical theater. And through the years, I have been blessed to direct some of my favorite musicals: from Sound of Music to Godspell, Hairspray to Kiss of the Spider Woman, Grey Gardens, Sweet Charity, even South Pacific. That production of South Pacific was the first show on the Royal Theatre stage once it was turned into a live theater.
I would like to thank my fabulous cast and crew for all of their hard work and thank the Royal Players for asking me to direct another show. Directing Hello, Dolly!, one of the great musicals of all time, on such a small stage made me need to reimagine how to scale down such a large production. I hope you enjoy what I imagined.
I would also like to say thanks to my two friends, Matt and Kristin, for collaborating on this adventure.
