Pippin is the story of a young prince, Pippin, the oldest son of Charlemagne, and his journey to achieve an extraordinary and completely fulfilling life. He is led on his way by the Leading Player and her mysterious troupe of Players, as they perform the story of Pippin's life and times. Pippin encounters war, temptation, intrigue, politics, family, and love on his quest, and ultimately must confront his own fears in order to find his very own corner of the sky.
Pippin was originally created by Stephen Schwartz in 1967 while he was a student at Carnegie Mellon University, for the student-run theater troupe, Scotch'n'Soda Theatre. It was performed at CMU's Spring Carnival that year, and debuted on Broadway just five years later in 1972, directed and choreographed by the legendary Bob Fosse. Pippin was revived on Broadway in 2013, directed by Diane Paulus, and starring Carnegie Mellon alumna Patina Miller as the Leading Player.
