A Note from the Director
I was excited to be granted the opportunity to direct this production of The Sweet Delilah Swim Club as a part of the 30th season of the Ritz Community Theatre! This show has always been a favorite of mine since I saw the theatre's original production in 2015. I was born in North Carolina and have memories of visiting the beaches in the state. Finding ways to bring an authentic beach vibe to this show's set design and construction has been fun.
The comedy in this show reminded me of what was found in the TV show The Golden Girls. You'll no doubt notice a lot of similar qualities in those women and the ones presented on stage in this show. It is an endearing story about the power of friendship told over many years in the lives of these five friends. They became friends on their college swim team and continue to foster that friendship each year when they meet in the Sweet Delilah cottage on the shores of the Outerbanks of North Carolina.
These actors have done phenomenal work in finding these characters and bringing them to life at different stages in the character's lives. Please feel free to laugh, cry, and experience this story as it unfolds. At the end of our time together, you'll no doubt be happy that you met the ever-team captain Sheree, the vivacious Lexie, the cunning Dinah, the accident-prone Vernadette, and the sweet Jeri Neal.
Thank you for joining us on the beach and participating in the 30th season of theatre at the historic Ritz Community Theatre!
On with the show!!!
