Director's Note
This is a story about a father and a daughter.
The tale of Orpheus and Eurydice has been known for centuries, but Ruhl’s play is a fresh look at the ancient love story. A play born out of sadness and loss, Sarah Ruhl wrote Eurydice after her dad's passing. Thick with grief and yet light with love, Eurydice utilizes the myth to tell its truth, a story of a daughter and her father.
While playful, Eurydice is easily one of the darkest plays we have produced here at RPA Theatre. The play presents its challenges, yet our troupe was not only ready, but also enthusiastic to dive into Ruhl’s work. Rehearsals quickly mirrored the show as they were both serious and filled with laughter. It was easy to trust this group of students with such poetic depth, as they are a phenomenal cast and crew. They are a family, and I am honored they call this department home.
The ongoing support for educational theatre at RPA from our Central Oregon community has been astonishing. Thank you for joining us this evening - enjoy the show.
In solidarity with Ms. Ruhl, this play is for my father.
