 A Message from the Director

From the first time I saw this show last year, I thought about how much fun it would be to do and the wonderful message it holds. In our society today, it’s all about external beauty and how good one looks. If you are not the “norm,” if you are perceived to be different, people shy away from you. But what about someone’s kindness, compassion, their heart? Shouldn’t we be able to look beyond external beauty and how good one looks and love someone for more than just their beauty? I know many “beautiful” people who are mean, snotty, self-centered individuals. I also know many people who are “beautiful” on the inside, who would do anything for me and those are the people I want to surround myself with. And so, as Shrek and Fiona come to terms with how they look and how others perceive them, we travel with them on their journey of finding each other and accepting who they are. We see that “beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder!” This cast has made me a “believer” – all different ages, sizes, diversity - all accepting each other and working together to bring you this delightful show and the message of looking beyond that external “beauty!” Now journey with us to the swamp and meet our “ogres” and “freaks” where I guarantee you they are anything but!
