Thank you all for supporting live theatre in the Marshwood District. Although I have directed many shows before, this is my first district musical. The support I have received from the parents, staff, cast and crew has been invaluable and I am so thankful. Creating the story of Buddy the Elf with over 35 set pieces, at least 60 costumes, countless props, and 66 cast and crew members at times seemed daunting but I am happy to say that everyone's hard work and dedication has brought Buddy’s world to life and has landed everyone on the nice list.
A question I always ask myself when choosing a show is “Why this story now?” Elf the musical has themes of family and faith. Buddy, along with the rest of The Hobbs, find the true meaning of the holiday season is family. In addition to family, the characters also discover the importance of having faith. Faith in Santa, faith in each other, and faith in humanity. When all seems dark, Buddy has faith that humanity will come together and the sleigh does fly.
This show also allows us to be silly. And when it comes down to it, is there anything more important than learning how to be silly when you’re a kid? (ok maybe an adult too). So take an “elfie”, tap your toes, try to say “Sparklejollytwinklejingley” five times fast and enjoy the show!
Thank you for supporting live theatre.
