Chantal "Chonty" Marks                                               SET DESIGN

Chantal aims to collaboratively create memorable experiences that dramaturgically consider their socio-political context. Being an architect, her designs are often site-specific (challenging conventional theatre layouts), “honest” (with raw materials and exposed construction) and aim to have a sustainable, reuse plan from the outset.  Living in Melbourne, Australia, she has established a dual career in theatre and architecture. In 2017, she met Kotryna Gesait, designing set and costumes for the premier of ‘Cocoon’ for the Melbourne Fringe Festival.  In 2019, she completed a Master of Design for Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts, attended PQ19 in Prague, and collaborated on a work developed in Penang, Malaysia and performed in Ha Noi, Vietnam. In 2021, Chantal's design for ‘Mad Forest’ was one of four shortlisted for the Emerging Designer for Live Performance Award in the Australian Production Design Guild awards. www.chantalmarks.com
