The Last Five Years - August 09 - August 10, 2013

Permian Playhouse

 End Notes

A Note from Scott & Nikki

First of all we want to say, whatever your reason for being here, we thank you for coming out and supporting our family.

The Last Five Years holds a special place for us in that it was the very first show that we saw together in New York City when we first started dating. Like many of you, we had no idea what we were in for but were shockingly surprised at how quickly we fell in love with the beauty of the music and the depth of the characters. We hope you also will enjoy and appreciate the struggles, the emotion and the strength of this story.

To dispel any confusion, we would like to explain the unique quality this show has over most others. While both characters are telling the same story, Cathy shares her tale from the end of the relationship and continues to their first date. While we find Jamie starts at the first date and continues to the end. It is our wish that you enjoy this unique storytelling effect and we invite you as the audience to imagine, pretend and dream with us as we tell this story of love, loss and hope.

While we do wish for you to enjoy yourself this evening our purposes and motive behind tonight are far more meaningful and important to us as a family. 3 years ago God broke our hearts as our eyes were opened to the worldwide orphan crisis. There are 153 million orphans worldwide. 153 million children who are virtually powerless and voiceless to change their circumstances and because this is the reality of our world today our family felt called to act.

We do not believe family is limited to shared DNA but has the ability to cross the boundaries of race, religion and even the lands in which we are born into.  We know our son is in Ethiopia and because of your support tonight we are able to take one more step toward bringing him home. A home with two parents, two crazy big sisters, an abundance of love and the resources and opportunities to perhaps one day return and change his home country for the better. We thank you for supporting and dreaming with us; we are a product of the dreams of the generation before us and our hope is that our children’s generation will dream bigger and better than we could even imagine.

We are thankful for the men and women who dreamed the unthinkable in years past as we watch those dreams come true before our very eyes.
