Another show is about to come to an end. For me, that thought carries a lot of emotions with it. I’ve been with these students from Day 1 teaching them the music, helping them with their lines, and studying the scripts which kept me busy and stressed. On the other hand, as I watch them from backstage bringing the story of Cinderella to life, I’ll be filled with pride and joy, and even a little bit of sadness, that all the hard work has abruptly come to an end.
Back in September, the students sat in the Chorus Room on the musical reveal day anxiously waiting for me to finally answer the question, “what show are we doing this year?” It’s always entertaining for me when I reveal the show due to the varied responses of the students. Some were happy to think about letting out their inner princess while others were just happy to be in a show. Whatever the initial response was for each student, I am happy to report that every student in this year’s show has worked hard and is ready to tell you the story of Cinderella in a new and exciting way.
On another topic, there is a group of people who I need to thank profusely. These people literally came to the rescue to perform a valuable and absolutely necessary part of this show: the Set Designers. I couldn’t find anyone who was able to build the sets when rehearsals began in January. I sent out one final “S.O.S” and these eight people came out and worked every single day to give us the beautiful and amazing sets you’re going to see. Look for their names in the program. If you know them, please join me in thanking the “Amazing Eight” for coming together at the last minute, and for creating such beautiful sets. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
Thank you parents for your patience and cooperation with the schedule, and for helping us with this year’s ads. Thank you cast and crew for loving musicals, and for working so hard and for cooperating with me and putting up with my directing. Thank you, Ms. Early and Miss Long, for stepping up and filling the vacancies for crucial roles.
Thank you, Mr. Bailey, for your work with the Pit. They sound wonderful. Thank you Mr. Forness for your expertise with the sound equipment. Thank you Mrs. Allein and Mrs. LaWall for the amazing costumes and props.
Finally, thank you to my family, and especially to my wife, for putting up with my absence, my mood swings, and my exhaustion.
And now…..sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
