  Director's Notes

I'm so proud of our production of Alice in Wonderland. I can't begin without giving thanks to each and every cast member for making this come to life, as well as every parent, production crew member, and every single person that was involved. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives for the last four months. We all were affected by Hurricane Harvey in August, and it was that very week we began the audition process. As trying as it was, our goal was to continue our best to carry on as “normal” as possible for the kids and create a positive purpose for them. We can definitely say that we “weathered the storm” together. Thank you to everyone who was involved and especially to my awesome team, who know who they are.

As with any storytelling, there are many interpretations. We all read and see stories in our own way. The best thing about Wonderland is that it can take you anywhere you want and tell a different story every time. Nothing is ever the same, and different is a great thing! I encouraged my cast to explore the different side, to think outside the box because you'll never get anywhere if you stay inside. As a mother, teacher, and director, I encourage all my kids to be who they want to be. As I directed this WONDERful cast, I encouraged them to be creative, develop their character, and always become a better version of themselves than they were yesterday.

It was particularly fun to create the sets and ideas throughout Wonderland; in many of the scenes, you'll find something that represents my family. Whether it is in a set, prop, costume, or a movement, they are there. As I have watched the cast bring the show to life, it warms my heart and I'm constantly reminded I am here because of them.

I cannot end without giving all my heart to my mom and my entire family who supported me, not only during the process of this production but throughout my life. Since I was little, with my first role as the Wicked Witch, and throughout school, becoming a mother, and everything in between, I could not have done it without each of them. They have carried me along the way in all my endeavors and never let me quit, no matter what storm came my way. I cannot forget my husband, Jason; thank you for embracing my crazy! “Once in his life, every man is entitled to fall in love with a gorgeous redhead.” -Lucille Ball  Thank you for choosing me!

I dedicate this production to my cousin. There is not a day that goes by without thinking of her wit, humor, and smile. “For tomorrow may rain, so I will follow the sun”- The Beatles
