The Peabody Veterans Memorial High School Performing Arts Department recognizes the racial and cultural diversity of our vast student body. In an effort to contribute to an inclusive learning environment for all, we strive to amplify voices, share ideas, and enhance student engagement in creative experiences within our diverse population.
Our mission is to effectively sustain a safe, diverse, inclusive, and equitable learning environment within our programs that support artistic, social, and emotional growth of all students, while overcoming stigmas and bias. To do this, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School Performing Arts Department seeks to:
- Attract and retain developing student artists from diverse backgrounds.
- Create an inclusive learning environment.
- Offer a wide range of classes and artistic programming that support choice and opportunity for our students and community members.
- Provide learning and artistic materials from artists of color.
- Hold open forums and collaborative discussions that encourage a better balance of talking and listening.
- Develop and institute performing arts experiences that guide toward a deeper understanding of diverse cultures.
Through these actions, students and faculty members will be encouraged to understand one another more deeply. We will scrutinize our own personal biases, allowing us to become more aware of stereotyping, as we remain open to a more comprehensive worldview.
We believe racism has no place onstage, backstage, in any school community, or nation.
