Dear PS 70Q Community,
Get ready to travel with us to the whimsical land of Duloc and to embark on an unforgettable adventure filled with laughter, love, and ogre-sized fun. Our production of Shrek the Musical, JR. brings all the beloved characters you know to life on stage: an intimidating, green ogre, a wisecracking Donkey, a feisty princess, a vertically challenged lord, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairytale creatures.
More than these beloved characters, however, and paramount to acknowledge, is the importance of Arts education - dance, moving image, music, theater, and visual arts. As a firm believer and supporter, having access to a high quality arts education plays an integral role in shaping our young minds. The benefits of the Arts are numerous and powerful and exist across student populations, age levels and learning environments. The Arts help our youth develop a strong sense of self and identity, build empathy and learning among peers and broaden the ways they make meaning of the world around them. The Arts also teach scholars innumerable lessons: practice makes progress, small differences can have large effects and collaboration leads to creativity. Research has also shown impressive benefits of Arts education on the entire school culture - especially student motivation, attitudes, and attendance.
I am immensely proud of the hard work and dedication my talented Assistant Principal, staff, cast, crew, and parents have put into this musical. Thank you all for joining us and experiencing the outcome of hours of planning, rehearsal and commitment, and buckets of love that made this musical possible. May your hearts be filled with great joy as you watch, in my opinion, the greatest kids on earth! Now sit back and enjoy our show!
“And remember Mrs. Thomas loves you, believes in you, and there’s no limit to what you can do!”
