Director's Message
Directing West Side Story for Carson High School has been an exciting and deeply moving experience. Our cast is very diverse and composed of a majority of students who never perforned in a musical. Each part of the rehearsal process has been filled with life lessons in addition to learning the basics of theatre performance practices and techniques. Each cast member has joined in meaningful discussions and storytelling activities that have helped us to better understand the important messages in the script and communicate better to our audiences.
It has been a delight and truly an honor to work once again with Mike Walker as the vocal director, and Senor Deur as the Technical Director. Coming back to us is Catalina Maese as our choregrapher and we are all deely indebted to the Wizardess of Production, Mrs. Gale Kadota. There are many parent volunteers on PAL, our parent support group in PAMA headed by Mrs. Emely Kamikawa. I could fill this page with parent names and industry professional names who have worked with our students and will gladly do so again. Suffice it to say that we know it takes a village to put together a play and we have a talented, inspiring, loving and deeply committed village who are devoted to theatre education.
Yes, we know most people in our audiences know the “Romeo and Julietness” of this story, but our Carson High Schoolers bring their understandings of the characters to you in their unique ways and we hope you will laugh and cry with them throughout the show.
Enjoy the show and watch out because....”Something's coming!”
Marcia Barryte, Director, West Side Story
