  • Denise Gabriel head shot

    Denise Gabriel

    Director

    teaches movement and acting, choreographs and directs. She holds degrees from University of Nebraska and Ohio State University. Prior to joining University of North Carolina Greensboro faculty she was the Resident Movement Director with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Other professional credits include Old Globe Theatre, San Diego, and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. International credits include Shanghai Theatre Academy (China), and Artscape Theatre Centre and Dance for All (Cape Town, Africa). Ms. Gabriel became a tenured professor in 1976 at Ohio University and has served as a Founding Board Member and president of American Theatre Movement Educators. Currently she is Resident Movement Director at Triad Stage, Greensboro. Ms. Gabriel co-teaches courses within the Religious Studies program and the School of Nursing. Her research interests include Somatic Studies, Sensory Awareness, and Soto Zen meditation. She is the contact person for the Gate City Zen Group in Greensboro.

    is a sophomore dual-enrolled in the College of Business and the College of Fine Arts. He is pursuing a degree in management information systems and music. Max has never been a part of theater before and is excited for his first time on stage.

    is delighted at 11 to be returning to OVST for his third summer. Some of his previous roles include Edgar in OVST's Ragtime; a member of The Lollipop Guild in Athens High School's Wizard of Oz; Billy in OHIO’s Division of Theater’s Assassins and Woodstock in Logan Theatre Group's You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. In his free time, Orion plays the saxophone and draws comic book characters.

    is an English instructor with Ohio University’s OPIE program. She returned to Athens after teaching in Saudi Arabia—where she encountered a princess or two. Originally from Vermont, she and her husband, Jim, moved to Athens in 2006. She has performed at Stuart's Opera House in “A Night with the Legends” and in several several productions with ABC Players. She dedicates this show to her mother.
