Welcome to the Nyack Drama Club’s production of XANADU. This fun filled musical opened on Broadway in 2007 and ran for more than 500 performances. It earned an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and a Drama Desk Award for Best Book. It was also nominated for Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Book.
“Xanadu” follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first ROLLER DISCO...hey, it's 1980! But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.
Each year we search to find something that will both teach and entertain and this year I feel confident we have found it ! The talented performers and crew have come together and worked very hard over the last few months to bring this show to life. So sit back and FLASHback to the 80’s !! I am certain many of you will find this quite a nostalgic ride or should I say roll down memory lane !
In closing as always, I would like to thank Dr. Montesano, Ms Saieva, the administration, teachers and staff of Nyack for their never ending support of our students. To our parents, I am so grateful for your commitment and understanding of the importance of theatre in the education of your children’s lives.
