The Lion King is now one of the most-performed shows in America!
Elton John, Tim Rice, and Hans Zimmer collaborated to create some of the most distinctive songs of our time. Songs such as “”Circle of Life,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” “Hakuna Matata,” and many more bring back memories and warm our hearts.
In this musical we follow the life of Simba whose father, Mufasa, is the king of the jungle and leader of Pride Rock. As Simba grows to become a young cub, he fantasizes about becoming the king and doing whatever he wants. However, Mufasa reveals that there is much more to being a king than always getting your way. Mufasa’s evil sister, Scar, plots to kill him and Simba so that she can rise to the throne as the rightful queen of Pride Rock. After Scar successfully eliminates Mufasa, he blames Simba for his death, causing Simba to run far away in shame. As Simba matures into an adult, he discovers that Pride Rock is in danger under Scar’s tyrannical rule. Simba then must return to take back his homeland with the help of his friends Timon, Pumba, and Nala.
I am so excited to be part of the Marist Theatre program directing The Lion King Jr. this year. This show could not have happened without the unending effort of Meredith Gifford, Jenn Beaudoin, Donna Piper, Mikaela Crute, Alex Cousins, all the parent volunteers, our cast & crew, and of course you. It is such a blessing to work with such a talented group of students and parents. They were able to accomplish so much in just a few months, and you will see the unique talents each and every student brings to the show. I could not have asked for a better group of kids. I have learned so much from these students, and look forward to working with them in the future. I hope you enjoy the show as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life.

"Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance, and respect all the creatures from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope." - Mufasa
