Welcome to the 2023 Notre Dame Theatre production of Little Women, a beloved classic that has captured the hearts of audiences for generations. As a director, I am thrilled to bring Louisa May Alcott's timeless tale to life on stage, and I am honoured to work with such a talented cast and crew to present a fresh interpretation of this beloved story.
At its core, Little Women is a story of family, love, and resilience. It portrays the lives of the March family, with their joys, struggles, and triumphs during the Civil War era. Through the eyes of the four March sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy - we witness their coming of age, as they navigate societal expectations, find their individual paths, and discover the true meaning of sisterhood. As directors we wanted to highlight the timeless relevance of the themes in Little Women, such as the importance of family bonds, the pursuit of dreams, and the challenges faced by women in a male-dominated society.
As with any adaptation, we have made some creative choices to bring our unique vision of Little Women to the stage. Our set and costumes will transport audiences to the 19th century, while we also incorporated modern elements, such as the music our carolers bring to life, to emphasize the story's relevance to today's world.
I am immensely proud of the dedication and hard work of our cast and crew in bringing this production to the Notre Dame stage. We have shared many laughs, some tears, utter joy and overall pride in creating this production for our audiences. I could not have done it without the help of my co-directors Ms. Gilpin and Mr. Esposito, as well as our stage manager, Gabriela Cortes Villamil. I hope that our audiences will be captivated by the enduring spirit of Little Women. Thank you for joining us on this journey, and I hope you enjoy the show!
Warmest Regards,
Ms. J. Paradis
