The Sound of Music was one of the first musicals I saw as a child and probably one of the most memorable musicals of all time!  There is barely a person out there that has not heard or sung the song “Do-Re-Mi.  The story, based on the real experiences of the Von Trapp family, includes something for everyone; romance, war, kids and God in control of it all!!

This was the last collaboration of the famous duo Rodgers and Hammerstein as Hammerstein passed away before the movie was finished.  Edelweiss was the last song they wrote together!  As I looked into the details of the music and the show, I was amazed at the care and thought they put into this light-hearted yet serious story.

The opening Latin chant you hear from the Nuns is a compilation of verses from Psalm 109 in which the prayer of David talks about God defeating the enemy.  The war against the enemy is highlighted from the very first note and the dependence on God to bring the family to safety ends the show as the Mother Abbess proclaims Psalm 121 “I will lift up mine eyes to the hills from whence cometh my help!”

I am humbled and honored to be able to have the chance to bring this story to life!  Every day at rehearsal has been the best!!  I would like to thank my awesome creative team, Melissa, Katie, Kaitlin, Lexi and Kimi without whom the show would NOT go on!!  They are the best team I could ever ask for.

I would also like to thank my amazing parent leads who actually make the visual you see on stage come to life.  The costumes, the set, the painting, the props are all a result of these dedicated parents giving of their time and talent to bring my vision for the show to life!!

The Sound of Music was Oscar Hammerstein’s last musical and Edelweiss the last song he ever wrote. How fitting that this musical became so iconic all over the world!
