The legend of Cinderella is timeless - almost literally. The earliest versions of the story go back as far as the first century in Egypt, are loosely based on a real person, and are written about by Herodotus! The version we are all most familiar with was written by Charles Perrault in France in 1697, and Walt Disney took this tale to a new popularity in 1950 with his animated version. Rogers and Hammerstein wrote this book and script for television in 1957 and it starred Julie Andrews. It only aired once, and then was produced again in 1964 and showed for a number of years.
North Salem's musical club has also gone through its own transformation this year. Our students have developed into a more formal performing group, now known as The Golden Stage Society. We are extraordinarily proud of the 101 students that are the charter members of the newly named group. The pride and respect that these students show towards each other and the art of story-telling through musical theatre is unbounded.
We will miss our seniors next year - a particularly large group - greatly. As we've learned from year to year, it's always difficult to see such wonderful and talented students leave. We've also learned that the underclassmen waiting in the wings will step up with equal aplomb and eagerness for their chance to take on more challenging work after seeing the work ethic and talent shown by their predecessors.
We appreciate your support of these talented students and look forward to watching your reaction to the story that you know so well told by our own shining stars. We hope you truly have 'A Lovely Night'.
