Directors Notes:
“The history of theatre is a history of first nights.” - John Lahr. After 21 years in this auditorium I am preparing myself for the renovation of my second home to a media center to the building of my new second home in the Performing Arts Center that will be built. Working on this musical has been a great distraction from what will probably be a pretty emotional end of the year. Hairspray will be the perfect show to say good bye with. Hairspray makes great use of the diverse student population and is so perfect to respond to the division occurring in our nation today. I apologize in advance that the set is somewhat limited – we tried to make up for it in the costumes and lights. We had little room to begin with back stage and it is being used for storage for other programs – we are all trying to compromise and work together to get through the construction process. Next year will be even trickier as we negotiate through even more construction and less space so look for details of next year’s season and locations towards the end of the year. I would like to thank Steve Wagner, Lacy Thompson Coyle, Andrew Bowman, Dave Hershberger for all of their hard work helping the kids do their best. I would like to thank our guest artists in lights, Brian Gehrlein and makeup, Julianne Donovan for going the extra mile to teach our kids in those technical arts. I would especially like to thank my wife and family for allowing me time to do what I love. Now that the formalities are done - please enjoy the work of our students.
