A note from the Director~
Oklahoma! is one of the first major American musicals that documented the trials and tribulations of the American people. It told the story of the settling of the Oklahoma territory, prior to gaining statehood in 1907, and of the hard-working people that settled there after the government led land grab. A musical unlike any other, it celebrates the American people and spirit, opening in a love poem to the land Oh, What a Beautiful Morning. The music featured in the production went on to become Broadway classics and standards that we are familiar with to this day. It is an important musical piece of history that we have tried to preserve and respect, to pay homage to where we come from as artists and performers. Not unlike the community found in the production, the Theatre Department is lucky to have supporters and benefactors far beyond the walls of the theatre. A huge thank you to the students that used their blood, sweat and tears to make this production come off the page. Thank you to Zach Spencer and Max Oliver, our amazing music director and choreographer for giving the music and movement breath and life. A huge thank you to Jeff Ditto and Ryan Hyfield for constructing the set of our dreams, Dianne Gralnick for taking headshots, and to Melody Hellard for her continued support of our department. As always, we could not have put this production together without the hard work and dedication of our parent volunteers, boosters and support of our faculty and administration. Thank you for all that you do. And finally, a very special thank you to my little family. And now, we hope you sit back, relax and enjoy our evening at the theatre.
