The Addams Family Just the Start of an Active Season!
Though the musical tends to be the most highly anticpated event in our season for our patrons, MTC (and our middle school program, WWTC), are just beginning what is an active program of events!
Both programs offer joint improv workshops every other Monday. Learning improv helps with not only creating character, but developing creativity and communication skills. These are highly sought-after traits for employers.
In the coming weeks, both programs will also be preparing their contest pieces for public viewing on November 7-9. Discovering Rogue follows a young woman who suffers from the stress of living up to everyone's expectations of her, causing her to run away. WWTC's play, Rising, focuses on students trapped in a classroom during Hurricane Harvey. Both shows will leave you with much to think about! WWTC competes in Indiana Thespians Regional Competition on November 23 at Hobart High School, and MTC competes on December 7 at Maconaquah High School.
All the while, both programs will be preparing students for the International Thespian Excellence Awards Program (formerly Individual Events). This program allows students to compete in acting, musical theatre, technical, and film events at our State Conference. Those who earn an overall Superior Rating at State qualify to compete in the "Thespys" at the International Thespian Festival in June in Bloomington! Last year we had 13 entries, and all earned either a Superior or Excellent Rating, with Francis Hovland receiving Best of Show for his short film. And 2019 alumna Sydney Hamill achieved one of the highest honors, a Superior in her Monologue entry at the International Thespian Festival, last June.
Both MTC and WWTC will be working on developing their improv teams for performances spanning February through April, culminating in the Second Annual Improv Olympics!
And we haven't even touched on the rest of the spring semester! Come back for the one-acts, and we'll talk about those events at that time!
