A note from the directors:
Welcome to our production of Urinetown the Musical. We began this process this summer with a priority of unifying our performing arts department and celebrating our talented students and the inclusive family that we strive to be. This year we have shifted our model to a co-directorship in which students are able to learn from us in our specific disciplines in hopes that it strengthens the program and production as a whole. It has been a most enjoyable and successful process to collaborate as co-directors and we are excited to present this production to the community.
What is Urinetown and why would we choose such a show? Not only is Urinetown a Tony award winning musical, but the story is well-written and the music is extremely energetic and joyful, making it a progressive and entertaining experience for actors and audiences alike. The message digs deep into the structures of capitalism, social responsibility, and environmental apathy while presented in a comical and satirical manner. We encourage you to laugh out loud at the jokes and reflect on the deeper meanings of the importance of these topics.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the students for committing to the production, the parents for their support of the arts and Monarch, and especially to our own families for their patience, love, and understanding of our absence, distraction, and mania during this beautifully stressful process. Here’s to many, many years to come of collaborative and dynamic Monarch camaraderie.
