The Drowsy Chaperone - March 26 - March 28, 2015

Middletown High School South

 End Notes

Dear Friends,

A long, long time ago, round and about 1989, a young boy stepped into the St. James Theatre to see his first Broadway show, Gypsy...

That moment was one that would be with him forever.  Since then, he has tried to create, capture, and live that moment again through each of his theatrical experiences.  This, in essence, is the journey of the "Man in Chair."  His love of musical theatre goes far beyond the appreciation for the story, the music, and the dance.  His loves and embraces the deeper meanings, the stars, and the significance of each and every word.

We all have our memories of these, our favorite shows. We all have favorite songs that take us to “…another world.”  Through this show we have found a place and group where we could all feel at home.  Tonight, we are inviting you into our home, our world, through the eyes of the Man in Chair.

This production is not just a send-up to musical theatre.  It is a metaphor for life.  There are times when you feel that things will not work out for the best, but they do.  There are times when you may have wanted something to work out differently, but the way that it happened was better in the end. There are times when you may feel like everything is working against you, but those challenges will drive you to overcome them and, in the end, you will be better for it.  These feelings and situations, in a sense, are the basic plot lines of most musicals.  This is why we chose this show.  This is not a show about glitz and tap dancing.  It is about trusting that your choice to “live” or “leave” when times get tough means everything.

Enjoy the show!
