Welcome to the world of Newsies!
As we step into the gritty, bustling streets of 1899 New York, we find ourselveselves immersed in a story that is both a reflection of its time and a timeless testament to the power of unity and fighting for what is right. Newsies is not just a show about a group of young newspaper vendors—it’s about resilience, the drive to create change, and the relentless pursuit of justice, even when the odds seem insurmountable.
As we watch these characters come to life, we also recognize the echoes of their struggles in our own world today, the challenges of standing up for what you believe in, confronting inequality, and finding strength in numbers.
As high school students, they are in a unique position to relate to these young characters—dreaming big, striving for more, and confronting the challenges of the world around them. Whether it’s standing up to a system that feels unfair, fighting for what’s right, or finding one's voice, these are struggles that transcend time and place. The Newsies might be from a different era, but their spirit and tenacity still resonate today.
As a director, it has been a pleasure to see how these students have taken on the roles of the iconic Newsies. The energy and enthusiasm that each cast member brings to the stage is unmatched. From the big showstopping choreography to heart-felt lyrics, this show reminds us of the power we all have when we stand together, support one another, and refuse to back down.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. I hope that as you watch, you’ll see the world through the eyes of these young revolutionaries and walk away feeling inspired to stand up for what’s right, just as they do.
Enjoy the show!
